The second annual Freedom 5000 on July 4th has been moved from the Austin HS School sart and finish to the Austin State School (2203 W. 35th Street). The move was necessary, says race direcgtor Jimbo Valadez of RunTex, because of the high fees the city is imposing on races. Last year's Freedom 5000, which was a simple out-and-back course along Cesar Chavez, cost the race organizers $10,000 in road closures.
The Freedom 5000 will still begin at 8 am on Friday morning with a common start/finish on the Austin State School grounds. The two-loop course, according to Valadez, will be extremely flat and fast. It will be the first race ever held on the school grounds. There will be plenty of parking on the school's campus.
Packet pick up (and registration) is Thursday from 10-7 pmat the downtown RunTex on Riverside. There will be raceday registration and packet pick up, beginning at 6:30 am at the race site. For more information, call Valadez at 472-3254.
